Murphy Radio 1963 Murphy
introduced three new transistor radio models in 1963, the B801, B812 and
B813. All three receivers could receive only MW and LW, all utilised 7
transistors. The B801 sold for £14.3.6 (incl pt.), the B812 was the most
expensive at £16.6.0 (incl pt.). and the B813 sold for £15.15.0 (incl
pt.). It is perhaps surprising that three models were available all
offering fairly similar levels of performance at roughly the same price.
Murphy must have learnt from this because they seemed not to have sold
particularly well, and the three new models introduced in 1965 varied in price
by up to 60% and offered clearly differing levels of luxury. (Those models can
be seen on the next page). Here in 1963 just the B812 is shown here.
This was the most expensive of the models available in 1963, but it does not
look particularly inspiring. It is clearly of its time though, with the
curved plastic and perspex clearly evident.
